Healthy Weight Awareness Month

January marks the new year and is Healthy Weight Awareness Month - what better time to reevaluate your health goals than now?

What is Healthy Weight Awareness Month

This month-long campaign aims to raise awareness about various risks associated with obesity and to provide people with the resources to improve their health. Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for maintaining good health. In addition to lowering the risks of chronic diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, and strokes, appropriate weight monitoring can help reduce the risks of many different cancers.

This month, people of all ages, weights, and ability levels are encouraged to improve their health and well-being by becoming more active and eating healthier.

Here are some things you and your family can practice to improve your health and get your year off to a good start.

Increase Physical Activity

The pandemic has presented its challenges with maintaining physical activity for many individuals. Whether you are working remotely or heading into It strengthens your breathing muscles, heart, and circulation, improves muscle strength throughout your body, strengthens your bones, helps you resist infections, and helps you maintain a healthy weight.

Eat Healthily

Always remember, it is about 80% diet and 20% workout. Eating healthy is about balance and ensuring that your body receives the essential nutrients it requires to function correctly.

Drink More Water

For this month, drink more water and herbal teas. Get rid of the soda and juice.

Don’t Forget to Laugh

Laughter is an excellent way to reduce stress and increase your "feel good" hormones. Laughter has been linked to lower blood pressure and the risk of stroke or heart attack. So, make it a habit to laugh at least once a day.

Get Enough Sleep

A good night's sleep makes you feel energized and alert the next day. This will help you focus, get things done, socialize and enjoy recreation and hobbies. Energy and alertness also help you exercise, essential for your overall health.
